Kazakhstan authorities intend to attract foreign tourists to Alakol Lake

The authorities of Urjar district of East Kazakhstan region of Kazakhstan intend to invest in the infrastructure of the coastal zone of Alakol Lake and to attract not only domestic, but also foreign tourists to the resort, Urjar district akim Serik Zainuldin said.

"A special working group was created on the issue of developing the coast of Alakol Lake. Projects worth KZT30 billion are to be implemented," Zainuldin said at the meeting on Sunday while discussing the prospects for the resort development of the Alakol coastal zone. 

"For two years we have invested a lot of money in the development of the coast. In the next four years we will invest even more so that not only domestic, but also foreign tourists would come here and rest comfortably," said Akim of East Kazakhstan region Danial Akhmetov.

According to the Information Center of East Kazakhstan region, the first thing contractors are going to do is bank protection of the coastal recreational zone by arranging capital breakwaters. Also within the framework of the project, it is planned to strengthen about two kilometers of the coast according to the building practice of Aktau Seaport. It is also planned to build water supply networks and water intake facilities, sewage networks, sewage treatment plants and filtration fields.

In order to ensure stable electric power transmission, an Electric Power Line with a capacity of 110 kW will be built from Makanchi settlement to Koktal.

Meanwhile, Akimat has already completed the work on the development of design and estimate documentation for the reconstruction of the runway at the airport in Urjar settlement. The project provides the landing of an aircraft on the strip from two courses, increasing the strip up to 2,100 meters in length and up to 45 meters in width, installing the lighting equipment for high-intensity lights, building a new terminal with a capacity of 70 passengers per hour, and redeveloping the administrative premises of the existing terminal. After the reconstruction of the runway, the airport will be able to receive a narrow-bodied aircraft with up to 70-80 seats.

According to the data of the Information Center of East Kazakhstan region, the work on improving the infrastructure on Alakol Lake has been carried out since 2016. During this time, the recreation area has been expanded considerably. Currently, 333 entrepreneurship facilities provide services to tourists, including 175 holiday homes, 2 hotels, 29 shops and 56 kiosks, 10 cafes, 4 bars, 2 restaurants, 8 canteens and one cookery, 2 pharmacies and an aquapark.
