Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov discussed co-operative activities with the leaders of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Glencore and Philip Morris International, who arrived in Nur-Sultan city to participate in the 34th plenary meeting of the Foreign Investors Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, primeminister.kz reports.

Alikhan Smailov and EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso addressed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation related to decarbonization and diversification of the economy of Kazakhstan, as well as development of the banking and transport-logistics sectors. They stressed that over the past 30 years of partnership, about 300 projects worth $11 billion have been implemented in the priority sectors, such as finance, infrastructure, SME, agro-industrial complex and digitalization.

“The EBRD's constant efforts to support the Kazakhstan economy, both in terms of efficient recommendations in the economic and technological policy and access to financial resources, are invaluable in our pursuit of sustainable development. In this regard, we hope to continue fostering effective cooperation” said Alikhan Smailov.

In turn, Odile Renaud-Basso stressed that the EBRD views great potential in the implementation of projects in the above mentioned sectors jointly with our country. Moreover, the Bank is currently increasing the share of investments in decarbonization, development of green technologies and renewable energy sources, which may be advantageous to Kazakhstan in the near future.

The prospects for the implementation of new projects in Kazakhstan were addressed as part of the meeting with Glencore CEO Gary Nagle. It was noted that our country is ready to continue establishing long-term relationship with such strategic partners as Glencore.

“The Company plays an important role in the mining sector of Kazakhstan. We intend to maintain the well-established traditions of partnership and develop new points of interaction,” Alikhan Smailov emphasized.

While talking with Marc Mariotti, President of Philip Morris International for Eastern Europe, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan highlighted that the Company has made a significant contribution to enhancing the positive image of Kazakhstan as a place of doing business.
