Investment remains a fundamental factor in the development of the economy

As part of the XII Astana Economic Forum, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin took part in the work of the III Kazakhstan Global Investment Roundtable, attended by more than 1,100 participants, including about 600 participants from 41 countries of the world. The plenary session discussed the issues of improving the competitiveness, developing transport and logistics, agro-industrial potential, financial markets and technologies, privatization of state assets.

Askar Mamin noted that investments remain to be a fundamental factor in the growth and development of the economy of Kazakhstan. In 2018, over USD 24 billion of direct foreign funds were invested in Kazakhstan, which is more than 90% of the total foreign direct investment in Central Asia.

In order to further enhance the flow of international capital into the economy of Kazakhstan, the Government is introducing new approaches in the field of investment policy, providing comprehensive support to investors.

The Prime Minister invited participants of the Forum to explore business and investment opportunities in Kazakhstan, including through the Privatization Program. Kazakhstan, in turn, offers all investors a favorable business climate.

“Modern approaches to renewing existing human, energy, and logistics capital underline our attention to the development of promising industries — the future drivers of the economic growth,” Askar Mamin said.

As a result of the Forum, investment agreements were achieved and commercial agreements were signed on 45 projects in the amount of USD 8.9 billion.

In the framework of AEF-2019, Askar Mamin met with the delegation of the East Committee of the German Economy, headed by Managing Director Michael Harms, where they discussed issues of the further development of trade, economic and investment cooperation.

Following the results of 2018, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Germany increased by 10.8% and reached a historically new level of USD 2.1 billion. The well-established bilateral cooperation of the countries contributes to the active creation of Kazakh-German enterprises. Over the past 4 years, German companies in Kazakhstan implemented investment projects worth about 2.4 billion Euros, over the past year over 190 million Euros was invested in joint projects.

The participants of the meeting expressed their intention to increase cooperation in the processing industry, energy, engineering, transport, agriculture, education and digitalization.
