Investors to be attracted in energy saving projects

The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev instructed regional akims to work more actively with investors and major energy enterprises, including on the implementation of public-private partnership projects as well as energy saving promotion. The Head of the Government also instructed the Ministry for Investment and Development to develop the algorithms to reduce energy consumption per each unit of output (a ton of steel, aluminium, coal, etc.), primeminister.kz informs.

The Head of the Government explained that today there are only overall figures on reduction of energy consumption of industries in general. This mechanism complicates the process of tracking: whether energy consumption is reduced at the product output, or there is just a decrease in production and, as consequence, reduction of energy consumption.

In addition, considering the fact that in the public energy register there are only 710 legal entities of 5198 entities, the others are quasipublic companies, the companies which are included in the Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Foundation, they also should undertake efforts to increase energy efficiency.

Let's note that according to the Ministry for Investment and Development, the regions are implementing 4 PPP energy saving projects with the total amount of more than KZT9,7 billion (Pavlodar, Atyrau are and Kyzylorda regions), 4 PPP projects are about to be signed, 10 PPP projects are under development (documentation) and partner search. The other regions have got no PPP energy saving projects.
