Kazakhstan-French investment forum took place in Paris
Kazakhstan-French investment forum was held in Paris on May, 28 with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in France and Kazakh Invest National Company, where the parties discussed Kazakhstan’s investment opportunities and signed a number of documents on cooperation.
The forum was attended by the Minister of State attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry for Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Khairov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to France Zhan Galiyev, Ambassador of France to Kazakhstan Philippe Martine, Chairman of the Board of Kazakh Invest Saparbek Tuyakbayev and representatives of the French and Kazakh business communities.
At the opening of the forum, the participants noted that the French companies are interested in capital investments in Kazakhstan which is a strategic corridor linking the Eurasian continent.
Ambassador Zhan Galiyev acquainted the French participants of the forum with the most interesting, for the international business, points of the speech of the President of Kazakhstan N.A.Nazarbayev at Astana Economic Forum, of the Address “New Development Opportunities in the Context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution” and “Five Social Initiatives”.
In his turn, Chairman of the Ministry for Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Khairov said that last year about 25 % of foreign investments in Kazakhstan were directed in the manufacturing industry. “It speaks about the fact that Kazakhstan is becoming attractive not only in the oil industry. We comply with the international standards, last year Kazakhstan became a member of the OECD Investment Committee”, - Yerlan Khairov said.
Also, Mr. Lemoyne highlighted the importance of strategic partnership with Kazakhstan: “When we speak about strategic partnership with Kazakhstan, I can say that it is a great reality. We should breathe a new life in this partnership and strengthen it, considering economic, political features. Kazakhstan’s Privatization Program is of great interest too. I think that France has experience and competence that can help establish the proposed Kazakhstan cooperation”.
Chairman of the Board of Kazakh Invest Saparbek Tuyakbayev noted that about 2/3 of investments of Gross Domestic Product of the Central Asian countries account for Kazakhstan that takes the first place among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States on attracted of investments per capita.
S.Tuyakbayev also told about the current mechanisms of support of foreign investors, including through a wide range of financial tools of the AIFC.
According to Kazakh Invest, now the world companies operating in Kazakhstan have access to the market of more than 500 million people. The multimodal Eurasian transport corridor passes through Kazakhstan, including 5 railway and 6 automobile international routes, as well as the modern transcontinental highway “Western Europe - Western China”.
“Our transport corridors allow to deliver cargoes from Asia (Lianyungang port, China) to Europe (Duisburg port, Germany) or back approximately for 10-15 days, which is 2-3 times faster than by sea. I can say that container transportation doubled”, - S.Tuyakbayev said.
50 niche projects in the priority sectors of economy in accordance with the National Investment Strategy were presented to French businessmen. These very investment proposals were developed together with “Deloitte”.
Besides, the forum discussed the sessions: “Kazakhstan as a platform for investment” and export on the New Silk Way”, “Tools for attraction of foreign investments in Kazakhstan”, and also “Digitization of economy”.
Also, Memorandums of mutual understanding and cooperation between ECM Technologies and Kazatomprom were signed within the framework of the investment forum.
