Investment opportunities of Kazakhstan and AIFC were presented in the United Kingdom

Investment opportunities of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Astana International Financial Center (AIFC) for the Government and representatives of the Business Community of Great Britain were presented today at the Kazakh-British Investments Forum in London City. The Forum is organized by London City Corporation, AIFC and “National Company “Kazakh Invest” JSC and supported by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the United Kingdom.

Welcome speeches were delivered by Lord Mayor of the City of London Mr. Andrew Parmly, Trade Envoy of the UK Prime Minister to Kazakhstan Baroness Emma Nicholson, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the UK Yerlan Idrissov, Her Majesty’s Ambassador Caroline Brown, Governor of AIFC Kairat Kelimbetov and Deputy Chairman of the Board of “National Company “Kazakh Invest” JSC Birzhan Kaneshev.

In his speech at the Forum Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the UK Erlan Idrissov said that in its 25-year history of cooperation the status of Kazakhstan and the Great Britain relationships has reached the strategic partnership level.

«Being one of the major investors to the economy of our country, Britain is rightfully considered as the important trading and economic partner of Kazakhstan. Based on strong trust relations, our countries actively cooperate in implementation of such priority projects, as establishing and development of International Financial Center «Astana», the program of privatization of national companies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, interaction within the framework of the Chinese One Belt - One Road Initiative, etc. Attraction of the British experience in high technologies and banking sector remains one of the most significant priorities of the external economic policy of Kazakhstan», - E.Idrisov said.

Ambassador of the Great Britain in Kazakhstan Dr. Kerolin Brown says that the British experts are willing to share their experience with the Kazakhstan colleagues. «The international confidence is a key to success of Astana International Financial Center. The more investors from the Great Britain or other countries, from different sectors of economy consider the opportunity of investment to Kazakhstan, the increasingly important role AIFC will play in providing  financial and legal consultations that they will need», - Dr. K.Brown said.

Governor of AIFC Kairat Kelimbetov said in his speech that the platform of this financial centre has a lot of privileges for investors which are expected to contribute to establishment of favorable conditions and attraction of funds to Kazakhstan. «AIFC has all opportunities to become a Eurasian gate providing trading-financial flows between West and East countries», - K.Kelimbetov has told.

Deputy Chairman of the Board of “National Company “Kazakh Invest” JC Birzhan Kaneshev presented new approaches of the company to work with potential investors, such as the proactive approach, targeting priority branches, regions of the world and countries. «The total direct investment volume from the Great Britain into Kazakhstan exceeds US $12 billion. According to the National Investment Strategy of the Republic of Kazakhstan adopted  earlier  this year and in the frame of investment attraction, the Great Britain is a priority country and this makes cooperation between our states even more stronger», - B.Kaneshev said. 

The session “London-Astana Bridge: Strengthening of Relations Between  Financial Centers” was addressed  by UK former Lord Chancellor Harry Kenneth Woolf and AIFC representatives, who presented in details the authorities of Financial Center, as Court, Arbitrary Center, Stock Exchange and AIFC regulatory.

It is worth saying that the financial Center of London City possesses extensive knowledge and experience in many spheres, including Islamic financing, fin-technologies, green finance and right of common.

The visit of our delegation to the Great Britain has resulted in signing of Memorandum of cooperation with British Trade Chamber in Kazakhstan and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Moreover, a number of meetings were held by Kazakh Invest with companies running businesses in Kazakhstan, as well as with those who are willing to enter our market, in particular, Aggreko, Metalysis, Sentinel, William Hare, ConnectIreland, International Development Ireland and etc.
